I have just spent 30 minutes trying to find an image scanner app that I downloaded when I first got the Mac 6 months ago, had no idea what it was called, so had to trawl through every single unknown app and folder in the Applications directory. In Windows, under the Programs menu, I used to have sub groups, such as Internet, Graphics, Audio, Utilities etc. Is there a way to have a menu group structure/pop up menu type system in Leopard, Ok so yo have the dock for regularly used apps, but I donot want shortcuts on it for every single app on the machine. Some sort of convenient groups menu system as in Windows that allows you quick access to rarely used apps.especially ones that yoy have forgotten about, and cant user spotlight to find, since you cant remember their names! Either an app, or a a way of doing it within Leopard would be better. I have tried a few freeware ones, but wonder if anyone had any other suggestions that I may have missed Neil. Have you tried; Open a finder window, (make sure it says finder in the top left of the menu bar). Extjs popup window close event in javascript. Drill up or down until you are presented with the Macintosh HD. You will see the Applications folder there, click and hold-now drag that folder to the right hand side of the dock an let go. (You'll have to drag it and hold it on the dock, like [this|Now click the docked folder.., does that suffice? You can drag other folders, (ie groups or documents there too). Yes, have been using that 'system' for a while now, but that is just an exact copy of all the apps and folders within the Application folder, which is the same as going to the Application folder in the finder, so you still have to search through it, so the problem this morning with trying to find a forgotten app is still there. If the game were played again, the students could apply some of these suggestions and then talk about improvements seen after using these suggestions, etc. • Specific vocabulary words could be written on the overhead/whiteboard for student use either prior to the game or during the game. • You can vary the difficulty of the pictures. • After the game, the pictures can be shown to the class so they can see how closely some of the drawings resemble the original images. Listening speaking and writing activities. A class discussion could center on what types of questions are best to ask. I haves seen a Start menu freeware app, but that just does the same thing, it copies the exact list of applications folder to the Dock. I want to be able to customise the Stack that pops up, so I have a selection of subfolders in the stack, named (for example) Internet, Audio, Utilities, Graphics, GPS, Phone etc etc. Into those subfolders will be shortcuts to the apps. Start Menu X Setup 4 53 Freeware SitesDragging the Applications folder to the Dock does not seem to be able to allow you to do that. You could if you like by the way create folders within the Applications folder and call those what you like. One caveat, don't move the Apps that came with the OS. (Incidentally this is exactly the thinking behind the current Utilities folder). So you'll have the deafult OS apps and then in addition the folders you mentioned where you could put; Internet - Firefox, Opera and Messenger etc. Video - VLC, Realplayer and Handbrake etc. You get the idea. I think that would give you back pretty much what you had, if memory serves Winduz has the categories and direct shortcuts to Explorer and Outlook etc. If you up grade to Snow Leopard the searching is enhanced too [look.|http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7OIigZekHc]. I have already added several other apps of my own to the Utilities folder. I was wondering if I could create new folders within the Application folder and then drag them into there, but if you cant move the Apps that came with the OS, then that would get a bit messy. I had tried to create folders full of alises, but that does not work either, some apps do not give you the option to create an alias for them. For some reason some apps (Tag 0.4.1, GPSBabel, VueScan, SuperDuper, Carbon Copy, Chronosync etc ) when you right click on them do not show a 'Make Alias' in the contextual menu. Gumsie wrote: If you up grade to Snow Leopard the searching is enhanced too [look.|] Link seems to be incomplete. I am waiting for my copy of Snow Leopard to arrive, I have paid for it, and the store say they will get new copies in next week or the week later. I could not wait so borrowed a mates copy and copied it and gave him his disk back, but my copy will not work, Disk Utility says there is a problem with the volume header, so either it is a bad copy or the disk is somehow copy protected, so I'll just have to wait for mine to turn up.
